This review is from: Hawkins STAINLESS STEEL IDLI STAND (18 Idlis) This is NOT stainless steel. It is made out of Hindaleum, which is an alloy of aluminum with other metals. I would NOT recommend this product for cooking any sort of food. Some research had shown hindaleum to leach lead. The title of the product should not be misleading, for it is really a Hawkins HINDALEUM IDLI STAND. Amazon should not allow their vendors to mislead customers with false advertising. After suggesting the company clear this confusion they have added to the item description that the product is not stainless steel but actually hindalem. But the titile remains the same. It was easy return and I got the best idli maker. Their phone number is given on taj electronics websites, you can call them and buy whatever you want. It costs cheaper than buying through amazon. I call them and order from them directly whenever and whatever I need. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you?  Report abuse | Permalink   Comment Poor plating, not for dishwasher use, April 9, 2012 By  Deltaforce - See all my reviews This review is from: Hawkins STAINLESS STEEL IDLI STAND (18 Idlis) I have little smaller Hawkins Futura (I think 4 liters), which is a great pressure cooker but it is not good for idlis and specifically if you plan to use idli stand as this one. This idli stand made of aluminium and the plating is pretty bad. It looks like stainless steel when you get it but one wash in the dishwasher and its pure aluminium underneath. Plus these idli 'pots' do not have holes which probably doesn't allow my idlis to make really fluffy. Well, they do turn out to be fluffy but not as round as they would otherwise with the 'pot with the holes'. Unless you are short on space in the apartment, I strongly recommend you to get idli steamer and stay away from this product. Really disappointed with the product taking into account Hawkins' reputation in this market.
