It's best to start with pre-chilled water, then shake it vigorously after you've discharged the gas cartridge, then put it back in the fridge for about an hour before drinking. All these steps help the water to absorb more gas and make for fizzier soda. I use filtered water from my tap filter (of course, no bottled water here...that would kind of defeat the purpose) and it tastes fabulous plain, mixed with fruit juices, or with just a squeeze of lemon or lime. You screw in the charge and it all goes out the nozzle immediately, along with most of the water. You set it aside for a moment and all of the remaining water and gas slowly leaks out of the nozzle, leaving you with a big mess.I go through soda siphons more than most people because I keep giving them away to friends, so I have a lot of experience with various soda bottles. I bought this one because it looks like one I've never had problems with. This one failed, shooting all of the CO2 and water all over the counter. I figured it was a defective unit, so I brought it back to exchange for another. The second one had the exact same problem. I returned it and they gave me another. Exact same problem!
